The incorporated parishes
The Monastery Vyšší Brod had 16 incorporated parishes: Vyšší Brod / Hohenfurth (with its own parish church situated in the town), Rožmberk / Rosenberg, Horní Dvořiště / Oberhaid, Dolní Dvořiště / Unterhaid, Hořice na Šumavě / Höritz, Rožmitál na Šumavě / Rosenthal, Rychnov u Nových Hradů / Deutsch-Reichenau, Stropnice / Strobnitz, Omlenice / Umlowitz, Kapličky / Kapellen, Boršov / Payreschau, Střížov / Driesendorf, Strýčice / Stritschitz, Přední Výtoň / Heuraffl, Malšín / Malsching and Přídolí / Priethal; further the branch of Loučovice / Kienberg, the only industrial settlement (with two big paper factories). Boršov and Střížov, situated near České Budějovice, were prevailingly Czech. Strýčice, also situated near České Budějovice, was prevailingly German, and the other parishes were in their majority German speaking. The monastic community always had several Czech priests for the pastoral care in the Czech-speaking parishes. Bby far the largest number of monastery priests (who were not retired) was permanently in the parishes, most of which were situated near the monastery. Neither the monastic enclosure nor the choir benches for monks were capable of accommodating the whole community.
