Monastic vows of obedience (lat. oboedientia)
In the vows of obedience (lat. oboedientia), monk imitates Christ, who was obedient to death. Listening to the Holy Spirit, monk seeks the God‘s will, and that‘s why he obeys the abbot and his substitutes in the faith and confidence according to the Rule of St. Benedict and the Constitutions of the Order. Individual members of Cistercian order are besides that obliged to render obedience to the Holy Father as to their supreme superior by virtue of the holy obedience (from the Constitutions OCist).
